Translated from the French by Claude Neuman

Novembre 2024, 100 pages, 14 x 21 cm, Distribution Hachette.

Pierre Bergounioux, who won several literary prizes, most recently the “Prix de la langue française”, is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest and most original contemporary French writers, his style a unique blend of refinement and brutality. He was born in 1949 in Brive-la-Gaillarde, in the barren, backward French region of Corrèze, which is the setting of many of his books. The two novellas presented here, by contrast, depict the travails and demises of young American and Russian WWII soldiers, which makes them quite special within his body of work. – Also translated by Claude Neuman and published by  Ressouvenances Éditions are another collection of short stories by Pierre Bergounioux, Of Fish and Game and Butterflies (The Line, Would-Be Hunter, Chidishnesses), 2022.

Also : (in French and English) the poetry of Friedrich Hölderlin (Poems at the Window, 2017 ; Aeolic Odes, 2019 ; The Elegies, 2020) and of Rainer Maria Rilke (The Sonnets to Orpheus, 2017 ; Rhymes, Rhythms : Selected Poems, 2018) .
